Busy Bees Being Busy Bodies: A Garden Centre Walk

Your local garden centre is a great and fun place for inspiration, relaxation and family time. But, when you go to a famous one on a national holiDAY, relaxing is not going to be included on that list.

At the beginning, my hopes were not high. The bustling people, the fragrant smells of the flowers, and even the colors of them; they were all getting a little too much to handle.

But we set out to have a nice day, so I had taken it upon myself to have one!

Look, a little garden gnome show.

And here we have some Disney paraphernalia.

Some ‘zen’ statues certainly don’t hurt! They may even raise the vibes a lil’ bit…

Looking at these statues did lift my spirits a bit, but not quite enough.

Because it was a this moment, I knew I fucked up.

Sometimes the momentum of a certain thought-train seems to go choo choo for a long time that you, a mere mortal, are unable to stop it.

The motion is truly loco, and pulling the lever seems impossible.

People also seemed to pick up this energy when they started to literally walk all over me.

I’ve exaggerated that a bit, but they were NOT stepping aside to let me through. I was getting annoyed, and I let it get to me…

But then!

When we had some lunch and stumbled upon these cacti, I was reminded that I needed to TOUGHEN UP and create a prickly exterior.

My sister said to just walk behind her and copy what she was doing.

The thing is, I NEVER feel overwhelmed anymore in social situations or in public outings. But it was something about this particular day that made me feel this way.

Time for a little secret…

I didn’t tell you, but before we arrived here, I got this icky sensation that I didn’t really want to go even though I was at the same time very excited to go. Call it intuition or-let’s call it intuition, because of this website’s name.

So, I toughened up, created my prickly exterior, and somehow, magically, the bustle of people stopped.

How did you d- now would you look at these beautiful colors!

And life was kind of great again.

We walked through the interior part of the centre and I completely relaxed.

All because I changed my mindset to be more present (literally present) within the space I was in.

Yes, you can go about life trying to make people feel comfortable by diminishing yourself, but that won’t actually make them feel comfortable; it makes them walk all over you.

We need to frequently remind ourselves that we are not the managers of other people’s emotions.

We don’t need to feel guilty for how they feel or about what they experience.

Being the most confident version of yourself (even if sometimes prickly) will take you much farther in life than being scared to take your rightful place.

No, not all people are going to like it, but you are going to be left with the ones who do like it!

And I like this. I like this a lot….
