The most important thing in life…
Do you even know the reason why you find the things important which you find important? Weird sentence to be phrased liked that, but what I mean is this: why do you find certain things important and other things not important? Does this mean that in hindsight, actually nothing is really that important? But then, why do we think they are?
In life, we sometimes change so much that we forget who we actually are. This is because we distract ourselves with seemingly important grown-up, vital things, which we have to do, have to worry about and have to have our attention on.
But, let me ask you something:
Why do you like going on vacation so much?
It is because you lose the notion of having to do certain things.
When we make a choice (Because every feeling you have is a choice. It might be a knee-jerk reaction at first, but dragging the feeling out is always your choice.) to stop finding certain things very important and when we consciously lose the feeling of having obligations, we literally free ourselves from ourselves. Because we kid ourselves, that we have certain responsibilities in life which take too much time away from us.
A very good example of this is having certain family obligations.
‘’We have to go to their house on Christmas Eve. Even though we really don’t want to, it’s just something we have to do.’’
Who are you actually doing it for then? Why would you torture yourself like that when literally no one is forcing you but you?
Who are you doing it for?
If it’s one thing I’ve learned from my time here on earth, it’s that time is the one thing you cannot get back. Still, I am a firm believer of there being no such thing as death and that we will in some way live forever because everything is energy and energy cannot be lost. But, your time here on earth is valuable, why would you waste it?
Still, there is a difference between: going somewhere and having somewhat of a good time and going somewhere and really hating it. But when you don’t feel good about going or you just feel drained afterwards, why do that to yourself? Your life is supposed to be fun, even though people say otherwise.
These are the people who predominately have a bad time in life.
Point I’m trying to make here: we put too much of our importance and energy onto things that in the end do not matter, or do not matter to us. This is where we enter the realm of people pleasing.
This is a fun realm where a person wastes too much of their energy, because they find it more important what other people think of them, than what they think of themselves. I did this for a very long time and many people are still doing this. It is quite hard to reconnect to your own personal power when you have neglected it for so long. But it is not impossible.
Not only is people pleasing a way of wasting energy; another way of wasting energy is to put too much of your own importance onto things that aren’t really that important.
~ Still, I am a firm believer of you deciding what’s really important to you, I do not have any say in that. But when it starts to take away energy from you and not in a good way, that is when you should maybe become aware of it. ~
Things like: the news, money, appearances, image, politics, gossiping, the state of the world at large, social media, TV and celebrities and who’s wrong and who’s right. These are the things a lot of people focus on, because they’re dramatic, they are controversial, entertaining, shocking and they create a really big reaction of dopamine and serotonin in the brain. But what it also does to you:
it takes the focus away from yourself.
This is why people during Corona had such breakdowns but also grew so much mentally. People were finally forced to take a serious look at themselves and they couldn’t distract themselves with things on the outside. I’m saying finally, because I find introspection rather important. But I’m sure that some of you would find that a waste of time and it’s perfectly ok to think that!
But it’s what I find most important, to focus on yourself. Focusing on yourself brings you freedom, wisdom, growth and it makes you aware. Focusing on yourself is a form of self-studying, of self-educating. And that’s the thing that can give you a beautiful experience of life. Because truly knowing who you are, that’s gotta be the most important thing of all.
